 There are few things more enjoyable than going after that trophy largemouth bass. Here’s a few pointers that will help increase your chances for landing that big one. A little prep work goes a long way. Make sure you have plenty of line in your spool, spools that are half full requires more energy to reel and that could be the difference in landing or not landing that lunker bass.

Treat largemouth bass like you would when going after any game. Do some preparation. If you have time, practice casting. Raise you pole straight up then tilt it slightly forward and practice spool control by lowering the plug to the floor with your thumb on the spool. Practice casting, work on your bait control.

Largemouth bass are good at throwing hooks, one trick to try is a split ring between the hook and bait ring. Fishing for largemouth bass takes patience, subtle changes like switching. Remember, largemouth bass are predatory fish so try different positions around the lake.

Keep a journal and make notes for largemouth bass. Information such as the weather, lake levels, pay close attention to wind direction and note how largemouth bass react. Don’t become stubborn by sticking to a plan just because it worked the last the last time. Trust your gut when going for largemouth bass, if your initial plan isn‘t working, try something different. If your fishing in areas with lots of cover, try fishing the end of a point where the land slopes are slight.


If you notice, while fishing, that the largemouth bass are acting lazy, like stopping short of your bait and turning away, try switching baits. Often times, the smaller largemouth bass will shy away if the bait is too big.
